In a letter to the editor in the Faribault Daily News, University of Minnesota President Eric W. Kaler had the following to say about Brian Daniels:
To the editor: Last Tuesday, I had the pleasure to travel to beautiful southern Minnesota and visit with your Rep. Brian Daniels, a member of the House Higher Education Policy and Finance Committee. I am always thankful to hear directly from your elected officials about their concerns and visions for the U. I look forward to building on our partnership with the Legislature in the 2017 legislative session. The University of Minnesota is, by all measures, among the nation’s Top Ten public research universities — with top-notch students, world-class faculty and groundbreaking discoveries — and the ‘U’ has remarkable impact across the state and in every county. Take Rice County, for example. More than 350 of our U students across our five campuses are Rice County high school area graduates and about 1,900 of our alumni work, live and lead in your communities. For example, 77 Medical School grads provide top-notch health care in Rice County, as do 45 School of Dentistry grads and 21 of our College of Pharmacy alumni. Then, there are 27 veterinarians in Rice County who graduated from the U. We educate more than 70 percent of all the health care providers, including nurses, in the state, and about 340 grads of our College of Education and Human Development are leaders in your schools and social service agencies. As we do across all 87 of the state’s counties, the University has great impact on the lives, education and prosperity of all Rice County residents. Thank you, Representative Daniels and thank you, Rice County, for all you do to support the University of Minnesota. Sincerely, Eric W. Kaler President, University of Minnesota
